The McCanns are heading to Japan! Check back soon for details of their adventures!

Hiroshima; 3rd year anniversary!
posted Thursday, August 11, 2005

What a year it has been! One year since climbing to the top of mount Fuji, our adventures continue. We have snorkled off the Thailand coast, climbed the Great wall, saw a woolly mamoth, polished the shine on Kinkakuji (the golden temple) and more.
Our latest stop: Hiroshima. One of the most infamous places in the world, as being the sight of the first atomic bomb in history on August 6th, 1945. 60 years and 4 days after that day, Laura and I made our way to the quaint modern city of Hiroshima.
We were lucky to spend two days in Hiroshima enjoying the local sights and flavours. It was also our first ride on Japan's fastest train: the Shinkansen, clocked at well over 300km per hour.
Our first day focused on peace memorial garden and the A-bomb dome. Day 2, we visted beautiful Miyajima, one of the three most beatiful sights in Japan.

Terrific photos. It must have been something to have seen the epicentre of the bombing.

Hi to you both and Happy 3rd...what a year you've had together with all these wonderful visits. When you said you'd do it, you did. More power to you!! We've just watched The Passionate Eye's show on 60th in Hiroshima. Saw the T-shaped bridge target and hospital. Survivors spoke of what they were doing the moment the bomb exploded. Also had commentary of crew of the Enola Gay plane. We're very glad you got to see this area. Quite a Bullet train. You almost arrive before you leave, eh!! Boys are in good form in spite of heat. Orae/Bud back home, and we miss them. And we miss you too, and love you. Saw Sean and Andree today for coffee at AGO and they look very well. Talk soon.

Hi and Happy Anniversary...what a full exciting year you've had. When you said you'd do it, you did it!! More power to you. Tonight we watched 'The Passionate Eye' - a program on Hiroshima, to commemorate the 60th. Showed the T-shaped bridge target and the hospital. Had survivors speaking of the moment the bomb fell and also commentary by crew of the Enola Gay bombplane. We're so glad you've had the opportunity to visit this area and we wish you continued happiness. Love you and miss you, all together. Talk soon. Guys are fine. Met your parents, Jonas, in TO today at AGO. Both look very good.

Wow, what an amazing memorial. I've never seen any of that before. That watch is quite the striking showpiece in memory of the Hiroshima tragedy! Great photos once again guys, looks like you're still have a great time in the Eastern Hemisphere. Some things have changed over here since you left, most of the Western Hemisphere is now under water and all of us are living on the top of the CN Tower, one of the only buildings left protruding above water :)
